WOOD BORER BEETLE
BEETLE/WOOD BORER (COC’S)
STRUCTURAL FUMIGATIONS & CHEMICAL TREATMENTS
Are You Seeing Small Holes or Dust on Your Wooden Floors or Furniture?
These could be signs of a wood-boring beetle infestation. In the Western Cape, common culprits include Anobium punctatum, Hylotrupus bajulus, and Lyctus brunneus. Each beetle species can be identified by the distinct holes and tunnels they create in timber and their preferred types of wood.
Understanding Beetle Behaviour:
- Larval Stage: Beetle larvae can eat through wood for up to 4 years before pupating for about 8 weeks.
- Adult Beetles: After emerging, they mate, lay eggs, and die. Eggs can hatch within 3 weeks.
- Dormancy: Beetles can remain dormant at any stage until conditions become favourable, so prompt action is crucial to prevent further damage.
