COCKROACHES
Cockroach Control: What You Need to Know
Year-Round Problem: Cockroaches are a problem throughout the year, not just seasonally. If you spot one, it’s best to contact your pest control company immediately. For every cockroach you see, there are many you don’t. Cockroaches are nocturnal and prefer to stay hidden during the day, making them difficult to spot. They spread harmful bacteria that can trigger illnesses and allergies, including asthma, making them one of the most dangerous pests.
Types of Cockroaches in Our Area:
- American Cockroach: Easily identifiable by its size (35-40mm) and ability to fly. They are commonly found in drain systems and other underground areas.
- German Cockroach: Smaller (10-15mm) and cannot fly, but can fit into very small crevices. They are more problematic and can rapidly infest a home, taking over in less than a month.
Behaviour and Habits:
- Cockroaches are scavengers and will consume a variety of substances, including non-food items like glue, grease, leather, cardboard, and hair.
- They are usually attracted to dark, moist places and are often found in small cracks and crevices, making them challenging to locate and eradicate.
- Female cockroaches can carry 40 to 60 eggs at a time. So this is almost 60 cockroaches hatching from a single female. And in about a month, those cockroaches are then big enough to lay their eggs, leading to rapid infestations.
Preparation for Cockroach Treatment: To ensure effective treatment, please follow these guidelines:
- Clean Thoroughly: Clean under fridges, stoves, dishwashers, and microwaves before treatment, not after.
- Manage Food and Water: Do not leave open food or water sources accessible.
- Fix Leaks: Address any water leaks to reduce moisture, which attracts cockroaches.
- Seal Entry Points: Seal cracks and holes where cockroaches might enter.
- Cupboards and Drawers: There is no need to empty or wash out cupboards and drawers after treatment. However, any surfaces used for food preparation should be washed down before re-use.
For the best results, adhere to the recommendations provided by our pest control experts.
